the riot before.

my friends from richmond called me today and asked if i had any pictures of their band for some sort of interview tomorrow. we were with these dudes for a few days on tour, so i had a handful of photos of them. here's the three i ended up liking enough to give them.

true affection / beauty / ricky fitts / etc.

photography's a poor excuse, i know. but it helps me remember... and i need to remember... sometimes there's so much beauty in the world i feel like i can't take it, like my heart's going to cave in.

emma.

the muses of summer.

vivre sa vie.

i shot this after watching a bunch of godard films in a row. think anna karina in vivre sa vie.

olympia.

i hate the way my handwriting looks. i use this baby for everything. i shot this with one light and my friend mike's nikon d70. it's a tribute to my steadfast love for this beautiful machine.

selections from "alive."

my very first series of portraits, "alive" is a project about simple living and simply living. it took me over a year of shooting and editing and shooting and editing and editing and editing to feel like i was at a stopping point. but i don't know, i'll never really be "done" with it - simplicity is a theme in most things i do. i just really enjoy the quiet moments between two people and a camera.

i only used 12 portraits. here are a few that i still like.
